BUILD YOUR SELF INTEREST TO COMMAND RESPECT
25. BUILD YOUR SELF INTEREST
It’s always in human nature to be
attracted by that force which lift us up; and repelled by those which bring us
down or in the state of boredom; for example, a fisherman who really chose
fishing from the desire of his heart, might not be moved to produce useful
results if his job is changed to crop farming, simply for lost of satisfaction
he derives from fishing. According to Ralph W. Emerson; “That which we persist in doing
becomes easier for us to do; not that the nature of the thing itself is
changed, but that our power to do is increased.”
It’s worth noting that, whenever you
leave your self interest behind, you are actually leaving your destiny in limbo
or dilemma; because “Nothing great was ever achieved without
enthusiasm”… Ralph W.
Emerson.
Self interest is the only lever that
will move people when you make them see how you can in some ways, meets their
needs or advance their course; but their resistance to your requests will
magically fall away by killing the zeal in your enablement. Do not be
intimidated. You have an uncommon and invaluable asset, of knowledge to share –
you will fill his coffers with rubies, and your wealth of understanding
(talents etc) that is indispensable would make him live larger and happier than
ever. In fact, according to Michihiro Matsumoto; “Nothing is more costly than
something given free of charge.”
