A COLLAPSING NATION
Nigeria, is this
you?
A country for
ages by all reverence
The citadel of
hospitability unqualified
A nation we all
owe our allegiance
The pacesetter
of Africa’s development
A land where
everybody thread on liquid diamond
A place where
African cultures were celebrated
A people
enriched with zest for unity
Sowing seeds of
hopes for tomorrow’s leaders
That was then,
far and gone.
Now,
The ebullience
and exuberance of then leaders,
The easy-going
and hard-working nature of our exemplary
And purposeful
helmsmen are all ebbing away
The fake
democratic exponents
Had made
extravagance their middle names
Tax payers are
fighting extortion resiliently
The Senators are
sitting every day in plenary
Debating trivial
issues with great passion
Life-changing
policies are left untreated
Their sessions
had become a foolery on Africa democracy
They preached
their sermon called manifestos when campaigning
Now, they have
betrayed their electorates having being voted
Only to fight
for Ghana-must-go every now-and-then
When the fulcrum
of their representation supposed paramount
Yet, they
under-look and undermined their electorates franchise
Nigeria, Nigeria!
Where are we headed?
How sure are we that the government is not confused?
How hopeful can the future generation perceive?
How decayed can a nation be?
How bitter can a people be
Why is the leadership myopic?
A country that is dead, ready to be buried
