Tiwa Savage, Mavin and Jay Z’s Roc Nation: What we know
For the past two days, there’s been gossip on social media that Nigerian singer,Tiwa Savage has parted ways with the Don Jazzy led ‘Mavin Records‘ and pitched tent with Jay Z’s ‘Roc Nation’.
It even became a lot more believable when Mavin A&R, Bizzle Osikoya and Tola Odunsi both shared posts on Instagram that Jay Z had indeed given the go-ahead for a deal to be signed with Tiwa.
In 2015, Briant Briggs, a rep from the Jay Z’s label was in Nigeria and he held meetings and listening sessions with two record labels in Nigeria, Mavin Recordsand Chocolate City but no decision was made to the public knowledge.
At the moment, Mavin is yet to officially speak on the issue and when our correspondent reached out Tiwa Savage’s manager Mekka, he denied reports of her leaving Mavin and expressed shock at the news of her signing with Roc Nation saying, ‘I’m hearing about this for the first time‘.
Tiwa Savage is currently in Dubai to perform at a gig this weekend and hasn’t said anything officially on her social media pages.
Her career officially began after graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in business administration. She worked briefly at the Royal Bank of Scotland before enrolling at the Berklee College of Music at the age of 27.
She returned to Nigerian and pitched tent with the Cecil Hammond-led FlytimePromotions before she officially signed with Don Jazzy and Mavin Records in May 2012.
