An online fraudster, popularly called Yahoo-Yahoo Boy,Iwuchukwu Uche Martins, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for allegedly duping a Vietnamese woman he met online withthe promise of marriage, to the tune of $145, 000 (about N457 million), the anti-fraud agency reports.
In a press statement signed by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujare, the suspect had posed as a military officer working for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in Kabul, Afghanistan, when he began fleecing the woman identified as H. Uyen, after promising to marry her.
"The agency noted that Martins also claimed to be a property agent operating in Nigeria and Ghana, and allegedly told the victim that he needed the money to procure some documents for their planned wedding.
The money was allegedly wired to the suspect’s Diamond Bank account number: 0028998256.
The suspect will soon be charged to court after the investigation is concluded."
